Developed by Dr Zein Obagi as part of the ZO Skin Health regimen, it is a pH-balancing, hydrating toner designed to support sensitised and weakened skin rather than compromise it.
 
After cleansing, the skin's pH can be temporarily disrupted — particularly following the use of active cleansers or exfoliants. The Calming Toner helps restore the skin's natural pH balance, preparing it to absorb and benefit from the serums, treatments, and moisturisers that follow. This is not a cosmetic step — it is a functional one. Products applied to skin at the correct pH are absorbed more effectively, which means the rest of your ZO regimen works better when preceded by this toner.
 
Beyond pH restoration, the formula delivers a meaningful hydration boost. The trio of Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, and Panthenol works as a humectant complex to attract and retain moisture in the skin immediately after cleansing — a period when the skin is most receptive to hydrating ingredients. Key Ingredients
Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract - The base of the formula. Witch Hazel is a natural astringent that helps tighten the appearance of pores, remove residual surface impurities, and deliver anti-inflammatory properties. Provides a gentle toning and refreshing effect without the harshness of alcohol-based toners.
Sodium Hyaluronate - A small-molecule form of hyaluronic acid that penetrates the upper layers of the skin to deliver hydration and support skin plumpness. Works with Sodium PCA and Panthenol to form the product's humectant trio.
Sodium PCA - A naturally occurring component of the skin's Natural Moisturising Factor (NMF). Helps attract and retain moisture in the skin and supports the skin's own hydration mechanisms.
Panthenol (Provitamin B5) - A well-established skin-conditioning ingredient that supports barrier function, improves skin softness, and has mild anti-inflammatory properties. Helps soothe sensitised skin post-cleansing.

How to Use
After cleansing and exfoliating, apply the Calming Toner to the face and neck using a cotton pad in the morning and evening. Do not rinse off. Allow to absorb fully before applying the next step in your ZO Skin Health regimen.
